Membership
Classes of Members
The North Texas Chapter – ACS offers the following membership categories. Any qualified applicant may become a member by paying the appropriate dues.
- Initiate Members – Initiate members shall be first year Fellows of the American College of Surgeons, residing or practicing in the region of the North Texas Chapter (separate from the geographic region of the ACS South Texas Chapter) who apply for membership in the Chapter and agree to comply with its Bylaws. Initiate membership is limited to the first year immediately following initiation into the ACS. Membership in the North Texas Chapter will be automatic for Initiate members who reside in the North Texas region and names of such members will be added to the chapter database following the ACS Clinical Congress each year. They will be sent an email of notification/welcome by the chapter and will be invited to attend the Chapter Annual Meeting. Initiate members shall be sent dues notices inviting them to become Fellow members the year following their Initiate membership year.
- Fellow Members – Fellow members shall be Fellows of the American College of Surgeons residing or practicing in the North Texas Chapter area, who apply for membership in the Chapter and agree to comply with its Bylaws. Fellow Members pay annual chapter dues until the age of 70.
- Associate Fellow Members – Associate Fellow members shall be Associate Fellows of the American College of Surgeons residing or practicing in the North Texas Chapter area, who apply for membership in the Chapter and agree to comply with its Bylaws. Associate Fellow Members pay annual chapter dues.
- Retired Members – Retired members shall be former Fellow or Associate Fellow Members of the Chapter who have retired from active practice and reside in North Texas. Membership in the North Texas Chapter will be automatic for Retired Members who reside in the North Texas region and names of such members will be added to the chapter database following the ACS Clinical Congress each year. Retired Members do not pay annual chapter dues.
- Affiliate Members – Affiliate Membership is available to physicians and non-physicians who work as part of the operating room team, in the office environment, in research, in surgical education, or in a medical association and are Affiliate Members of the American College of Surgeons residing or practicing in the North Texas Chapter area, who apply for membership in the Chapter and agree to comply with its Bylaws. Membership in the North Texas Chapter will be automatic for Affiliate members who reside in the North Texas region and names of such members will be added to the chapter database following the ACS Clinical Congress each year. Affiliate Members do not pay annual chapter dues.
- Resident Members – Resident Members shall be current Resident Members of the American College of Surgeons, residing or practicing in the North Texas Chapter area that apply for membership in the Chapter and agree to comply with its Bylaws. Resident Members pay annual chapter dues. Membership in the North Texas Chapter will be automatic for Resident Members who reside in the North Texas region and names of such members will be added to the chapter database following the ACS Clinical Congress each year. Resident Members do not pay annual chapter dues.
- Medical Student Members – Medical Student Members shall be current Medical Student Members of the American College of Surgeons, residing or practicing in the North Texas Chapter area that apply for membership in the Chapter and agree to comply with its Bylaws. Membership in the North Texas Chapter will be automatic for Medical Student members who reside in the North Texas region and names of such members will be added to the chapter database following the ACS Clinical Congress each year. Medical Student Members do not pay annual chapter dues.
